Acting with Howard Fine

Howard himself will teach you how to prepare a monologue and how to build a character from the ground up.

Deborah’s Songwriting Class

Deborah Gibson will challenge kids to break the record she has held for 20 years of being the youngest writer/producer/performer of a number one hit in music history by showing young people how they can “musicalize” any situation they are encountering in their young lives as well as creating from pure imagination. Even kids who don’t play an instrument will learn how to tune into the music they hear in their heads and translate that into a song. At the 2009 Summer Camp, she will be working with 30 select students who will be chosen from the camp roster based on their talent and desire to learn more about the art of songwriting.

Pop Performance & Styling

Under the guidance of Billy Purnell, one of LA’s top voice teachers, you’ll get a chance to get behind a microphone and perform in front of your peers in a fun, safe environment. You’ll learn the tricks used by top recording artists to create a “current” and radio friendly pop music sound.

On-Camera Acting Technique

Ted Brunetti helps you tackle copy for commercial auditions as well as TV and Film and watch it back to see how your work is translating to the screen.

Students will learn choreography to songs from popular musicals such as High School Musical, Wicked, etc, to improve their traditional musical theater skills and to help prepare them for learning choreography at a real Broadway audition pace. They will also learn some "music video" hip-hop and funk. A little sweat, a lot of fun & a ton of STYLE.

Vocal Technique

New York-based voice teacher Erick Buckley will help you learn the building blocks of singing that will enable you to be able to sing more safely and effectively. Students will be given a solid foundation to build upon, as well as practical and quick ways of tackling audition and performance material from both a technical and emotional standpoint.

RECORDING BOOTCAMP

Deborah Gibson, Gavin MacKillop (who has worked with Miley Cyrus, The Goo Goo Dolls & others) and platinum-award winning producer, mixer and engineer Rudy Haeusermann take a select group of young singers on a ten day recording experience in which they learn about all the stages of how a song is recorded, from laying the instrumental tracks to recording the lead vocals and mixing the song. Students may also take part in recording each other’s background vocals. Each singer will leave with one professional fully-produced track of a song they wrote or a cover of a song of their choice. This is held at a world-class recording studio with state-of-the-art equipment and technicians, truly a unique opportunity for any young performer wanting to learn more about the recording process. This bootcamp is only offered a few times a year and is limited to ten students, ages 10-20. Tuition is separate from the camp tuition. Acceptance is by audition only, with scheduling preferences given to prior students at one of our camps or those who have already taken one of Deborah’s Songwriting Intensives.

SONGWRITING INTENSIVE

Over a four day period, Deborah works personally with a select group of young songwriters to help them create their own song. Deborah will co-write your unfinished song with you by adding the chords and all the music you’re hearing in your head and help fine tune where needed or simply give advice on already completed songs. Each student is guaranteed to leave with one completed song and sheet music, but most students have left with two or more, depending on their experience level and desire to write. During the previous two Songwriting Intensives, the students were also able to record a basic demo of their song, with Deborah guiding them through that process as well. This intensive is only offered a few times a year and is limited to eight students, ages 10-20. Tuition is separate from the camp tuition. Acceptance is by audition only, with scheduling preferences given to prior students at one of our camps.
